Back to the Story

So, now I have this wonderful trail horse that will do anything. I now have to learn to keep up with her and my new trail riding friends. At first I was slow going. Didn't want to canter, trot or anything. Now we zoom along on our rides. I used to not like going by myself. Now I head out all the time by myself. Otherwise I would never get to ride. So this will be a blog about all my trailriding adventures.
Here are some pictures of our everyday rides. This is a local Rock Quarry that we ride in. There are some ponds at the very top of the trail. Yes, there are a lot of rocks, but hidden in them is a trail that you can navigate. Of course since all the rain, the trail might be washed out. We will have to see in the next few weeks. And it might not be passable until the creek water goes down. But a fun ride all the same.

Rain Rain Go Away

As I sit here listening to the rain pound on the roof for the last 72 hours, I have been looking through the pictures of last years trailriding adventures. Wishing I was out on the trail, instead of freezing cold typing on my computer.

To back up a bit. I am new to trailriding. I had never really ridden the trails before. Oh yeah. I had taken a simple walk out on the trails. But I have never gotten technical. I CERTAINLY never moved faster than a walk. My trailriding companions consisted of sedate riders that wanted to take their show horses out for a walk. The footing had to be good. The weather had to be hot, etc. You get the idea.

I am not new to horses. I have been around horses all my life. Mostly horses that are used for showing and breeding. My daughter got into Hunter/Jumpers and we geared all our horse purchases to that discipline. And as time went on. I sort of stopped riding and started enjoying being a show mom.

Then one day I made the innocent comment that I would like to get a horse for myself in the future. Just a trail horse. Nothing fancy. Something I could tootle around on and have fun with. My good friend a Morgan breeder and trainer said, "If you are serious, I have the perfect little Quarter horse mare for you."

Next thing I know, we are building a shelter and paddock in my backyard. That was only the beginning.........
